The title of this strip comes from a Polish saying meaning: “Not my problem.” (I don’t totally understand the literal meaning, but monkeys are problems, and circuses are the source of problems, I guess?)

The facts cited in the strip are, of course, true:

The Hollywood Reporter published this article about last year’s theater attendance back in January (based on estimates provided by the National Association of Theater Owners).

Lizzie’s line from panel four is based on this data from the Department of Labor. There have obviously been a few increases to the minimum wage since 1970, but there is a general downward trend despite those increases.
