T-shirt Printing Methods

There are two kinds of printing methods used on the various T-shirts currently in the Multiplex Store:

1) Vinyl Transfer (a.k.a. Plot Printing) — This print-on-demand method is even more durable than offset-printing and the printing will not fade. It's also pretty low-cost. The reason it's not use more widely is that it's limited to two colors per shirt and cannot do screen tints like offset or DTG shirts.

2) Direct-to-Garment (DTG) Printing — DTG printing is sort of like inkject printing, but with inks specifically made for fabric (of course). With DTG printing, the ink actually penetrates into the shirt, leaving a soft/matte appearance to the final image, unlike some offset methods. Unlike silk screen and heat transfers, the image will not crack or peel off after a few washes. DTG printing allows for very high resolution images and an infinite number of colors in each design.

While shirts printed with any of the methods are very washable, we do recommend turning them inside and washing them with cold water, and to be careful not to include anything with metal in the wash with them, as zippers or buttons (or anything) may damage the imprint.
